Glowy Skin: How do We Get It?
(Without looking like we’ve either been in a sauna or dropped a festival style glitter bomb…)
I really love the glowy skin trend that is current right now. I like that it’s simple; it’s about enhancing our natural skin, and is do-able with very few products! When I’m wearing makeup, I prefer to go for a natural look, contours and dark colours don’t suit me and I like the feeling of bare skin (or nearly bare!)
So, aiming for a soft pink glow without looking like I’ve sprinkled fairy dust on myself (admittedly, I do actually love this sometimes though), or gone all out with a shimmer brick when we step out the front door.
There are also a number of lifestyle and personal factors, one being that we are usually either genetically predisposed to have that kind of skin, or, we aren’t…And unless I am stress free and laying on a beach a week into a holiday sipping on a virgin mojito, my skin doesn’t always glow with peachy luminosity every day. Sometimes I need a little help!
It starts with lifestyle, and one of the most important things here is hydration! It seems like the most obvious thing, but I for one, know if I’m not drinking enough of the good stuff I can look grey and a little lifeless by midday. I am for around 3 litres a day; which is always easier on the days I work out.
Nutrition is also a key factor, eating foods that support the body’s cell regeneration, recovery and ultimately a balanced diet that works for us. I don’t believe there are ‘good’ or bad foods,’ it’s all food and will give us energy. Balance is important, so finding what works for your body and skin are key. Antioxidants are a powerful part of skin cell turnover and regeneration so Check out my post from the wonderful Nutritionist Freya Harrap with a 101 guide to plant-based antioxidants for skin health.
Move your body! My favourite, free and totally natural way to get a glow is simply by moving! Whether its dancing around my living room to Bombay Bicycle Club, hitting the gym or just going for a walk, there’s not much that can beat getting the heart rate up, circulation pumping and the lymphatic system kicking in.
I’ve tried and tested a fair few creams, powders, glosses and serums and that all proclaim to give a gorgeous natural glow and these are some of my favourites right now…
The products we use can help us to achieve a glow, but the best one most definitely comes from within. So most importantly, do what makes you feel good, everything else is a lovely little extra.
