What is it, and how does it work?
Breathwork is a transformative somatic healing practice that harnesses the power of your breath to release stress, stored trauma, and emotional blockages. But what does this mean for you?
The term “somatic” comes from the word “soma,” meaning “body.” Essentially, somatic healing focuses on healing through the body, recognizing the deep connection between your physical sensations and emotional experiences.
Ever noticed how your body reacts when you have negative thoughts? Your posture shifts; your shoulders might slump, or your breath becomes shallow. These physical changes reflect the ongoing communication between your body and mind. When you breathe quickly or shallowly, your body signals danger to your brain, triggering the release of stress hormones like cortisol. While this response is vital in true emergencies, chronic activation leads to detrimental effects on your health.
Your body records every experience, developing patterns to keep you safe. Imagine having to consciously assess every situation you encounter—exhausting, right? This automatic response system is essential but can become problematic when outdated coping mechanisms linger long after their usefulness has faded. For instance, a person who learned to be submissive as a child may carry those behaviours into adulthood, impacting relationships and overall well-being.
So, how can you begin to heal and regain a sense of safety and connection? The answer lies in your breath. Through Breathwork, you tap into your body’s natural healing abilities, sending signals to your brain that you are safe. This creates a powerful feedback loop, calming your body, reducing stress hormones, and fostering a state of rest and self-regulation. Finding safety in your body builds resilience and lays the foundations for processing the old and creating new healthier ways of thinking, living and navigating life. As you engage in this practice, you’ll experience clearer thinking, reduced anxiety, and a greater sense of comfort in your body and life. This deep healing process can strengthen every aspect of your existence, from relationships and body image to your goals and work.

We begin with a grounding meditation to center you. In private sessions, we explore self-inquiry questions or focus on specific themes to set the intention for the session. Then, we begin the breathwork. The somatic work usually takes between 20-40 minutes (this goes fast). After this, there is sound healing and integration. As the bridge between body and mind connects, the transformation happens. You may experience clarity, insights, tears can come and bring release, or you might fall into a restful sleep. After the session, there is aftercare and a follow-up process with Daisy as standard.
Absolutely! We all begin this journey where you are now. You are in the right place.
Online sessions are ideal for anyone that is time-pressured, experiencing physical health challenges or would like evening sessions. Breathwork can be powerful online, as you are already in a comfortable environment and can fully relax after the session.
There’s no minimum number of sessions. Before taking a deeper dive into any therapy, Daisy suggests booking an initial consultation and seeing if you would like to work together after this. Most clients commit to regular weekly or fortnightly sessions to work on a specific goal, but one or two may be enough.
- Reduces stress and anxiety by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (shifting from “fight or flight” to “rest and digest”). - Eases grief, depression, and anger while promoting emotional healing. - Boosts energy and strengthens the immune system. - Enhances self-awareness, presence, happiness, and access to joy. - Increases self-love by helping you reconnect with your body and truth. - Improves sleep, releases stored trauma and fear, and aids in pain relief. - Helps with detoxification and supports digestion. - Allows for exploration of altered states of consciousness in a controlled, conscious way.
During breathwork, you increase oxygen levels, which stimulates the hypothalamus, releases endorphins, and energizes the body. Initially, the brain may resist, but as the process continues, you may feel a surge of energy, sometimes localized in certain areas. This opens up energy and emotions, allowing them to flow freely, including those that have been stuck for a long time. By engaging the involuntary system, you shift into a higher state of consciousness. Clients often report a calming of the nervous system, a deep connection to their body, and clarity on their next steps, while also learning to safely release stored energy and awaken their intuition.
Around 70% of our toxins are released from our body through our breath. Carbon dioxide is a natural waste product of your body’s metabolism. Breathing deeply helps the systems in the body to process this more efficiently. Deep diaphragmatic breathing tones, massages and increases circulation to the heart, liver, brain and reproductive organs. In one study of heart attack patients, 100% of the patients were chest breathers whose breathing involved no diaphragm or belly expansion. Another study found that patients who survived a heart attack and who adopted an exercise regime and breath training afterwards experienced a 50% reduction in their risk factor of another heart attack over the following five years.
