Skin Loving goodness

Skin Loving goodness that you’ll find in the kitchen!

Some of the best skin and body care products are formed from natures simplest ingredients, and, most of us have some of these already, waiting to be used (or eaten!) If you’ve got some time and fancy getting creative, use one of these wonderful nourishing recipes and give yourself some pampering!

The key ingredients we’re going to use are Cucumber, Turmeric, Avocado, Honey and Oats. You can alter the ingredients depending on your skin type and sensitivity, then just relax and enjoy this homemade self care.

This mask is great for most skin types!

Cucumber, Oatmeal, Turmeric, Honey (optional extras Lemon or Avocado):

Cucumbers: Apart from being the piece de resistance to your face mask, these tasty little veggies have some fabulous skin boosting ingredients!

Rich in minerals and vitamins A, B, C and E, all of which nourish, soothe and encourage cell growth, cucumber is also brilliant at helping to calm irritation and rehydrate dull or dehydrated skin. Gentle enough to use on delicate areas like the eyes and lips, we usually use them to de-puff tired eyes thanks to their cooling and smoothing effect.

So, it makes sense to use them on the rest of your face, right?! Cucumbers are made up of 96% water so laying down with a few slices of these literally gives your skin a drink.

In this mask, the cucumber acts as the base and complements the oatmeal’s soothing and nourishing properties to restore balance.

Oats are one of my favourite natural skin care ingredients. They contain a compound called saponins which help to cleanse the skin without irritation and are great for soothing and nourishing. I have found them particularly good for helping to treat skin sensitivity and conditions like eczema, as the moisture penetrates deeply into the skin and helps to restore the skins natural barrier.

Turmeric is known for its powerful anti-inflammatory qualities and is an age old remedy for treating blemishes and helping to reduce pore size.

Honey is a natural humectant; it attracts water molecules to your skin so helps to keep it well-hydrated, moisturising the skin without making it oily. It’s packed with antioxidants and helps to enhance the skins natural glow and shine.

Step by step…

  1. Pop ½ a cucumber into the blender and pour into a bowl
  2. adding in a generous tablespoon of oatmeal. Combine these together stirring gently.
  3. Add in 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of turmeric and mix it up!
  4. Massage onto skin using small circular motions then leave for 15 minutes…
  5. 5.Et voila! Your skin is going to feel nourished and clean and a reduction in redness and inflammation.
  6. Rinse off gently using a face cloth to remove any excess residue.

Adaptations for this mask : If you’d like to add a bit more skin brightening power to the mix, add a few drops of lemon juice!

Avoid if your skin is sensitive though as the high acidity in lemons can irritate.

For skin that is feeling dry and in need of some extra nourishment, adding ½ avocado will help to restore oil and moisture to the skin.

Enjoy!
